skimmer required for 285gl tank,
lack of cash , thinking of DIY is there any plastic pipeing that you can't use. i know you can use UPVC ,but what about PVC as in large diamiter drain pipeing 6"-8". i have a good set of plans from the USA and the reports on the skimmer is that it works very well . |

go for abs pipes its dirt cheap and easy to work with most fish shops will get it for you. |

i am in same boat as you so 90% off my equipment is diy with a fraction off the cost so go ahead with diy it might not look so smart but it does a great deal better than shop ones at a fraction off the cost my next project is a overflow with a sump |
