My local shop has told me my eheim 2260 will need 15 litres of substrat pro and some other media and pads and said it would cost about £150 to fill it.

Someone has mentioned using alfagrog as it is cheaper. Does it do the same job and is it as good.

What I do nto want to have to do is clean the filter every few months- the longer it lasts the better.....

any ideas??????

The eheim substrate probably is better. So you will have a larger surface area for bacteria. But you may not need this.

Alfagrog is also very good and I have used it in the past with no problems.

With either the never need to be replaced, but may need a bit of a rinse out every once in a while.

This will be the same with either media - depending on the tank and stocking this should be somewhere between every 3 - 6 months.

Your main problem will be the sponges as these may clog up and require cleaning more frequently.
