Wishing for any Improvements? |

Our programmer is soon doing some updates on the chat room and forum. Whilst we have his attention, is there anything you would like to see in the way of improvements for this forum, including the PM system? |

What about adding a auto resizing system for our pictures save people having to go into the resizing link and do it them selfs then you have to save it again then you end up with 2 pics the same just that one of them is smaller than the other. |

keep the simple forum facia. its very easy to use if a little boring
|

we are trying to encourage other fishkeeping websites to use our unbranded chat room, the ideal result being that you could access this from various websites and more hobbyists would join in. this will be a free service to those other fishkeeping websites.
if you know any other sites that currently have no chat room, let them know. the linking code is top left on the chat room window.
we hope to add registration to the chat room, to keep some of the wallies out. the membership accounts would be initially imported from this forum, so it would be seamless for you all to use. |

danny, sorry if its boring
paul, great idea - spot on |

hows about a fish list? a part of the forum that holds basic knowledge on popular species? not a thread but something similar to fish index. com (i think) i used to post as a regular there and new members were huge amounts each day
you could easily ask the forum regulars to compile the info. i would be happy to spend a fair bit of time to help out |
23-11-2006 14:52 by webmaster
|
mmmmm, one to chew over danny - that could be very labour intensive.
on your previous (boring) point, how about enabling members to choose their own colour scheme, this could be stored in the permanent login cookie. |
23-11-2006 14:53 by webmaster
|
... besides colour scheme, we could have font size for those with eyesight strain. |
23-11-2006 15:19 by wayne
|
mmmm. i think that would cause problems , unless you can keep it down to 3 font sizes , otherwise the screen will go big just like when people do this .........(obviously alot more dots) , colours scheme ? poeple with bad eyesight would struggle with some colours , how about a gallery , of members tanks and a proper intro/member list |
23-11-2006 15:39 by Bogwoodbruce
|
Maybe a small avatar, not somthing thats big and takes over half of the screen. |
23-11-2006 15:45 by wayne
|
i think avatars would spoil it bruce such an easy forum to read and reply. |
23-11-2006 15:52 by Bogwoodbruce
|
Yeah thats true, ok ignore what i said. |
23-11-2006 16:22 by paul stevens
|
Dont forget the post preview before we post webbie.. |
23-11-2006 16:45 by webmaster
|
wayne, the idea with the colour scheme is that users could choose from a palette, and pick one that suited them. other users would have a standard colour, unless they changed their own.
a fair point made though with font sizes. |
23-11-2006 16:48 by webmaster
|
i have been thinking more about a proper profiles system, that would be good. members could volunteer information if they wish, including msn contact, skype, email, hobbies, location, etc. maybe even a video link. |
23-11-2006 17:10 by telboy
|
the chat reg'is a good idea webbie! stop all them muppets coming on + ruining it for us regulars |
23-11-2006 17:12 by webmaster
|
yes telboy, by having a proper account, it is the only way of blocking them. |
23-11-2006 17:15 by paul stevens
|
But you can block them now webbie but i do think that its a good idea but why cant you connect it to the forum then its just one login then you keep the same name on chat and the forum. |
23-11-2006 17:24 by Danny Boy
|
like the sound of choosing your own colours on the forum. keeps it simple but intresting. hate post previews that you cant turn off too so make it an option rather than a must.
how about an edit post option? although that said i dont want to complicate the forum as its simple to use.. even paul stevens can put up the same pics week in and week out. |
23-11-2006 17:31 by paul stevens
|
But you can do coloured fonts now when ever you want.. |
23-11-2006 19:10 by kingie11
|
how do you do that i have looked all over my pc and am lost how do you do coloured fonts
|
23-11-2006 19:44 by richard hulley
|
how about making peoples email visable so that if they abuse the system we can all annoy them |
23-11-2006 20:02 by AndreaC
|
I thought the pms worked No wonder when ive sent pms no one has replied
What i find difficult on here is keeping track. On other forums the last post answered bumps that topic to the top, on here you have to scroll and find them as they stay where theyare or move doen list, only new topics are at top.
Not much i know and im pushing it being new best go now before some one boots me |
23-11-2006 21:09 by wayne
|
ANDREAC, SIMPLE ANSWER TO THAT , AT THE TOP LEFT THIER IS A SORT BY: BOX AND YOU SORT BY MOST RECENT REPLY, EASY AS THAT , |
23-11-2006 21:54 by webmaster
|
You can also click the leftside grey B by each topic. This will bookmark your favourite threads. Then click on Bookmarks link to see them. |

how about on the for sale adverts there is a location on the main advertising list........
i hate finding something im intrested in only to find out its the other side of the country!
eg Firemouths for sale [Gloucester]
other than that im a happy user! i find it so east to get around the site......keep it simple |
24-11-2006 01:15 by paul stevens

Simple for the simple... |

A section for wanted ads on the adverts section, it's so annoying searching through the ads and wanteds come up. |
24-11-2006 07:32 by webmaster
|
bruce, this is already the case. there is a section just for wanted ads. on the 'All' adverts page of course, that shows everything. on the 'Recent Added' page, the same but minus the wanted ads.
some advertisers keep trying to sneak in a wanted advert under another category, but they get moved when i spot them. |
24-11-2006 07:35 by webmaster
|
robert, yes that would be better, but very hard to do - its all to do with how the databases are constructed. the adverts are in a seperate database than the user info (location). to merge them would make the pages much slower to respond. |
24-11-2006 17:49 by paul stevens
|
Don't want much Mr pope do you why don't you ask webbie to email you when something in your area comes up for sale that will make it easier for you... |

24-11-2006 21:52 by robert.pope
