Hi try using a caravan/boat water pump as they are only about an inch or so in diameter. they pump to a good head but are only 12 or 24 volts so you will need to use a transformer! not sure if you can get one 240volts
these are quite good:http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/shop/Detail.asp?category=3&subcategory=31&ProductID=719

What I do is pour the water into a bucket and put an internal pump in and pump it out. The last little bit in the bottom can then just be tipped in.
