Hi,
I have recently lost one fish. The symptoms were floating up to surface, swimming very uncordinated. Then floating back up to surface. Not eating. Looking generally down in the mouth. Then it would seem fine for a while. Then it would return to the surface. It's tail movements seem to be very small, but very rapid. Breathing normal. I now have a yellow lab with the same symptoms.
All water parameters have been measured and they are okay. PH okay, Nitrates & nitrites okay. Ammonia levels okay.

The yellow lab does also swim about, but usually swims with head pointing upwards in a very uncordinated fashion

It also swims with only one fin, and then darts off. |

I don't think it will last that long actually. Seems to have come on very rapidly. All the other fish are fine |

but just incase its worth checking.. if another fish died from it, then its probably contagious.. you might be able to get a treatment to stop it spreading or help control it if it does. |

No, seems like Malawi Bloat without the bloating. They have a spirulina based food, with daphnia once a week. It is being picked on by the others now, so I think it wont be alive much longer. |

id assume it was a swim bladder issue. but thats not contagious, could be internal parasites if the fish looks ok from the outside. and that could be contagious.
my concern is that you say the nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels are "okay" we need to know what each of them are, it may point us in the right direction.
also tell us what other fish you have in the tank. there could be a bully in the tank. when you say the lab is swimming about with its head facing upwards this would point to swim bladder for sure. the normal symptoms are the fish looks heavy in the water. and struggles to swim to the top. they nomnally spend a lot of time resting on the bottom of the tank.
until we get a little more info i would advise a 30% water change as soon as you read these very words, then come back and reply. |
