how long does live rock have to be in a marine tank before removing my other filtration ie cannister filter and how many kilo for a 100gallon tank |

40 to 50 kilos and when the rock springs into life remove the cannisters .you will need circulation pumps i take it the tank is a 4x2x2 good luck. |

If you can put 50 to 60kg in there say ikg to every 2 gallons will cover it. |

id still keep the mechanical filteration going myself, tb you can come and have a look at my setup one day if you come down my way , |

5x2x2.5x6.25 is 156.25 imp gallons you want about 75 kilos of live rock in there.
Once the live rock is in over a few weeks gradually remove more and more of the media in the canisters until they are running empty.
With this amount of live rock I would be aiming for a total in tank water turnover rate of 28,500 lph this is just over 40 times the tank volume every hour I would try and do this using 4 stream pumps 2 in the top back corners pointing at the opposite front corner and 2 close to the bottom aiming along the back of the tank. Also consider using a racking system this will reduce detritus build up. |
