yes mate just found the advert what a JOKE £5 for a fry
any fry is a joke at £5 but for a hybrid even more of a joke. This guy is saying they will be "extremely aggressive" and is trying to make his advert seem exciting |
10-12-2006 21:39 by Ste
as i said in the FREEZER they should go
10-12-2006 21:48 by Cichlid Fury
well i would still take the fry for about 20p each if less than a month old. £5 each for fry? hybrid fry? i agree with trying to raise dovii / red devil cross fry i just dont agree with the fantasy beliefs of the guy trying to sell them! |
10-12-2006 21:54 by Ste
He is possibly trying to go down the new species route. They are Madovi cichlids very rare quick buy some |
10-12-2006 21:55 by Ste
Do you think it is time to point out the error of his ways?
10-12-2006 22:04 by Cichlid Fury
ste i am tempted to email him BUT my view is..... people can advertise what they like and how they like its up to the people who buy to decide for themselves BUT cant help but feel annoyed at the advert, but its more the "wording" i mean good luck to they guy if he can get £5 per fry if i got £5 per fry it would all get ploughed back into the hobby. I just think he is in a dream world, and what i find most funny is that he "successfully" bred a Dovii and a Red Devil?
since when do hybrids gets "successfully" made? its normally the result of a fluke i though? Did this geezer put a Red Devil and a Dovii in a tank for a breeding project? |
10-12-2006 22:05 by Cichlid Fury
and if he did, WHY? i like the idea fo RAISING hyvrid fry just for the challenge and see what they look like but i cannot see the sense of intentionally trying to breed to different types of fish? |
10-12-2006 22:09 by Ste
here here i agree totally i wouldnt dream of putting anything with my red devil .it would be blood bath . but your right fair play to the guy |
10-12-2006 22:11 by Ste
i dont personally think it was a project, possibly more of a fluke as you previously said
10-12-2006 22:14 by Cichlid Fury
well i'll give him 50p per fry plus the cost of postage, if they survive for 4-weeks after i have them i would give him another £1 per fry, making it a possible £1.50 each
£5 per young fish? i thought it was only Discus that could command that kind of fee |
10-12-2006 22:18 by Ste
I wouldnt pay that for any fry . but thats why i aint got no discus |

CF have you ever seen honey gouramis in attack mode there quite a serious fish when fully grown,it would be interesting to see what they look like but how he managed to get these to together its gotta be a one off. |

Seen that ad myself, noticed a few hybrids ads on here. I'm not exactly a purist (have unintentionally had hybrid fry from male sev x female chocolate) but what is the need for these? Some of these will likely end up in a shop as a "New Species" where someone is gonnae get ripped of for buying a mutt. Wolfs and RD's are great fish as it is. With you here darren hate hybrids with a passion |
11-12-2006 15:45 by chris platts
I might buy some of the fry as a treat for my male Dovii! cos thats all they are good for!.
{FISH FODDER!!!!} |

a fish is afish weather they re a hybrid how many people keep hybrid dogs , it is down to the owners to stop the x breeding no fault of fish or fry , |
11-12-2006 16:16 by curviceps
Yes, no fault of fish or fry, more fault of the breeders for selling them on. |

Somebody is selling bronze corries cross bred with albino now. |
12-12-2006 12:55 by telboy
with all the bad things going on in this world,is a hybrid fish that traumatic??? does it really matter that much? as long whomever is selling em describes them as such i see no problem whatsoever,if i had hybrid fry, described what they were, and still folk offered me money for em id bite their arms off for the cash!a lot of fish we buy in LFS have been genetically altered in some way, shape colour etc,so pull ya heads in and get on with life! if ya dont want hybrid fish, then dont buy em simple as that... |
12-12-2006 16:07 by PaddyD
I have no problems with hybrids that look like hybrids. The problem with closely related species is that it is not obvious. With fish being quite long lived, how can you ensure that they are sold as hybrids once they are 3 years old and been passed around a few hands.
The cory's advertised are not hybrids though, albino's and bronze are the the same species - I would expect all the babies to be bronze just with the albino genes not expressed. |

My head is in and do get on with life mate, amount of hybrids being sold as true species is getting ridiculous up in Scotland, don't know what it's like in England. And very difficult to buy decent true species, because of the likes of BP's etc here. |
