Hole position? |

I have the chance of a tank that has a cracked bottom......
if i were to get it i would replace the bottom with something like 10mm glass.
If im replacing the glass base i thought it might be worth getting a hole drilled to use a sump with it .
my questions are
1 what size hole?
2 how far from the back and end should it be drilled?
3 what tubeing should i use as the overflow?
thanks all ! |

hi robert , you dont say what size the tank is , but as a rough guide my 6x2x2 has a 40mm hole drilled at both ends my 4x2x2 has one 40mm hole at one end , aquamedic do european fittings or n&d aquatics do the english versions , one thing to note is that european pipe and fittings are a different size to english so try to stay with the same type where possible and dont drill your tank until you have the fittings . N&D can tell you where the holes should be drilled . here is there number07915368513 |

Ps my smaller tanks all have 32mm holes in the back these take standard english 1 and 1/4 inch waste pipe fittings .another thing to note is that you cant use pvc pipe for marines it must be ABS which can be a lot more expensive |

sorry its only a 24x18x12 i thought i would use it for a breeding tank on a metal stand with a tank/sump below...
so if i went for a 32mm hole and used standard 1-1/4 wast pipe what fitting is there to go through the tank?is there a flange? or do i just bang a lot of sillicone around the waist pipe!
ste its fresh water fish |

if im honest i wouldnt touch a broken tank with a bradgepole, buy the time you've paid for the glass and messed around you could have bought a decent secondhand tank. |

thanks guys it seamed like a good idea and i allready have sillicone
however i got a price for a 600x300x6 mm glass drilled with a 32mm hole today and was told it would cost £13 +VAT.....the tank and lid is only £3 and stand £3......
i have a old 24x12x12 that i thought i would reseal and use as the sump so for around £25 i would have a small drilled dreeding set up
