hi yesterday i bought two kribensis. 1 male and 1 female. the dealer asked all the right questions "how big is the tank, have u eva kept them before", then gave me loads of information about them(WHICH I KNEW LOL). he also put them in a bag with oxygen and rounded the corners off so the fish couldnt get trapped. i havnt had this for so long that i was impressed. they were 2.99 each and r about 1.5 inches long. in the bag they were very drab and colourless. as soon as they were aded to the tank they got their colour back. the male has adopted a cave and now chases the female away everytime she gets near. is this bad? the female has a very rounded belly that is extremely colourful. are they mature?

The male is just establishing his territory, and if the females belly is rounded and purple, she's ready for breeding. She'll soon start dancing in front of the male contorting her body so that it looks almost 'S' shaped. IME getting a matched pair can be a bit hit and miss, but once you get a matched pair, they tend to stay together for life. HTH

thats her way of flirting. if it were me id buy 1 male and 5 females wait for a pair to form and breed then sell the other females back to the shop.

Danny is spot on, hopefully you'll be lucky and they'll pair off okay.

They are big enough just now, had kribs that I was raising, spawning at smaller than that. After that all fry were separated as soon as they were sexable

the male seems to be detering all of my fish from his "patch" he isnt aggresive but chases(without harming) them when they get too close to his cave. he is raly colouring up and swims around the female. her belly has intensified and she "shivers" more when he gets near her. how much would i be able to sell kribs 4 if they bred

Couldn't tell you what to expect from your shops, I used to sell 100 at 1/2" for £25 every month to an LFS. If they do spawn, if your water is soft you'll have a high ratio of females, if it's hard, you'll have a higher ratio of males. Don't know why, just what I found through experimenting with water parameters over a period of 18 months.

i read that on the internet. it also says that if ur water is neutral youll hav a mixed number of each

oh yeah how long does it take for them to grow about an inch and how many fry do u get from each spawning. what sort of sized tank do u need to raise the fry. it sead on a website they can stay wiv the parents until they have more babies. how big would they be at that stage

I only left the majority of the fry with the parents for a week then I stole them. Generally between 80ish to about 150ish fry per spawn. I had 7 2' tanks running at the time for raising fry. The remaining fry were generally eaten within the month as they prepared to spawn again. I generally sold them after 2 months or so, hence the reason I had the 7 tanks, meant I always had fry ready at the end of the month. (That was the deal with LFS)

i think mine have paired off. the female follows the male about the tank and they have taken a cave off my corydoras and spend a lot of time in the cave. fingrs crossed theyll spawn real soon
