Should i go for one or not? iv got a 5x2x2ft tank im keeping large chichlids in it and have got a eheim pro 3 2080 external filter do they make a difference to the water quality?have had a bit of a problem in the past in my old tank with algea thought i might go for one. |

i think they kill whitespot parasites. for getting rid of algae i wuld say filter floss in the filter always works. gets clogged up quikly. needs replacing once every 2 weeks in my experience. its realy cheap though |

never used a uv but if theres expensive or large fish in there it might be worth getin 1 for the precaution hth |

its good to use as a clarifier and if u do get the whitespot itll help fight it |

UV sterilizer yes clarifier pointless.
Benefits of a sterilizer include: Background bacteria levels kept low, background pathogens levels kept low, A small amount of ozone is created improving filtration efficiency, algae spores are anhilated.
If you are on a budget try the internal UV sterilizer made by fish4fun you can find the thing on rocket tradings website. |

One other thing with sterilizers it is vital you get the flow rate right if you don't it will not be effective. So if you don't go for the internal you will need to set up a dedicated feed of the right flow rate. |
