Its died I havent a clue what was wrong but things changed damm fast last night. I have been keeping close eye on the fish and checking every 15-30 mins. I went in bath last night and things hadnt changed, hacing swim around for a few seconds then gasping at top for ages. I got out the bath and looked straight in and the fish was on its side in a bent shape I wasnt in the bath long so how did that happen so fast! I got net to take it out and put in hospital tank then when came back it looked like it was having a fit!! I dont think fish can have fits but it looked that way, shaking all over in jerky movements. I took it out and placed it in hospital tank and added salt. After the shaking it tried swimming around and ate a little. Went to bed late with no further change and woke up at 6.30am to find it was dead at bottom of tank, mouth wide open and in normal position (not on side or anything)
Whats happened? Im pretty upset and worried about the others. The rest are all ok at moment.
Tasha. I updated the blackmoore one The black moore is perfectly ok now, swimming round like the fruit cake always been
I just dont get what was wrong? |

How much salt have you put in the tank have you actually measured the salinity.
People keep saying put salt in the tank but I disagree unless of course there is a clear sign of stress or fungus.
The addition of salt will actually reduce the disolved oxygen levels and if used incorrectly could cause stress.
I would begin a course of water changes to gradually reduce the salt content say 10% water changes every couple of hours for a day that should get the salt down at a rate that won't stress the fish to much.
Use plenty of dechlorinator. |

I put in half the amount your supposed to. I only use salt when there is signs of sickness. The others are all ok. Im going another water change in main tank in a bit. Did one this morning.
he had started gasping before I put salt in, maybe by then adding it after I made things worse |

It is possible but don't beat yourself up about it we are not all trained vets after all and are forced to do the best we can its your intentions that should be applauded many would just flush the poor thing down the loo you are doing your best and that is all we can do. |

Thanks. Its so horrid to see them like that. I couldnt even think of flushing them down the loo .
Well the the others are all still doing fine. Did a big water change today aswell.
Thankyou everyone who replied for all your help and advice |
