Hi iv got a 10" tilapia butterkoferi iv had her for about a year now and im updating to a larger tank for her (5x2x2ft) iv been told to go for smaller cichlids as long as they have got hidding places to get out the way. Is this correct? what do you recommend to keep with it? |

you may be lucky + get away with keeping other fish with a butte'but i wouldnt recommend it,as these are mean mean fish, you could always try a few mor butes with it |

our boggy hasnt had any problems yet but all the fish in the tank are small, also there are loads of hiding places. i foresee problems down the line when certain fish mature but be careful . it helps to have another tank available ready to move bullied fish as this one wont give up |

I don't think that they are as bad as everybody makes out. Not all of them are agressive. There are worst, take snakheads or, red devils jaguars or wolf cichlids. |

TB,s are one of the most aggressive fish in the world, they will kill everything put in a tank with them, perhaps not straight away but eventually anything in it's territory will die,it is territory that is the problem. In the wild they are substrate spawners and defend a pit of about 16 feet across, nothing is allowed in there.Juveniles are usually ok for a short time but it is inevitable that any butterkoferi will start to kill the other inhabitants |

I have heard of butty nailing all of those fish on your list bogwoodbruce butty are famous within the hobby for their intolerance of tank mates juveniles you can get away with but as soon as they become sexually mature you will have a problem especially if you have a male. |

what was the size of the tank though Ed space is a big issue with butty's and also had the fish grown up with the other fish if it had this could explain the very unusual level of tolerance. |

Alan this tank was about 20 foot long 5foot high .The red devils had broods in there and there was about 10 devils and all sorts vrery peacfull it was in barca aquarium and i was more or less the only one taking pics of this tank ,the other people thought it was boring.
