Hi. Ive noticed over last 3 days there is like a film ontop of the water and where the filter outlet is the water is clearer. I didnt think much of it as It happened once before and just went after a week.
Anyhow today (just now) Ive spotted tiny white specks/dots on the tank walls and some floating about. Anyone jnow what they can be?? There is quite alot and ive never seen nothing like them before.

if you have a extarnalfilter thats been switched off and you start it after a while then you have like white flakes coming out off your outlett messing your tank due to debris that gathered in your pipes |

Right, Last night I did a part water change of 40% as there were loads. I also spotted a vey thin white kind of worm looking thing floating about in current and wriggling like mad What the hell is is?? Im worried these white specks are eggs to the wormy thing. Ive managed to get rid of alot of them but there is some still there.
Help!!! |

think it might be planaria, think thats how u spell it, try using filter aid, dont think planaria is harmless in anyway, but i could be wrong |

What is planaria ?? I asked at a pet shop today and they thought parasites until I told them the wormy thing wasnt attached to any.

oops, guppies wouldnt be suitable in a cold water setup though. |

remember reading about them in TFH, i cant remember what they are but as kobi said theyre harmless. guppies eat them i think, if youre wanting to get rid of them. |

Ahh just been reading a few other links and it does sound like planaria. It says from over feeding. Mine are only fed once every other day One site recommended doing a full clean out, should I do that removing everything and cleaning it all before putting it all back?? Wouldnt that be like having a new tank set up?? Or should I do that and put 50% of the water back?? |

4 times a year i do a big clean out, but i only do 40% water change and i change the filter media over a period of time, you dont want to replace all the media at one time. i have started using accu clear, its a filter aid, and polishes your water, it is fairly cheap but works wonders,
do you remove uneaten food after feeding? |

Ive just done a clean out and over all water change was 40%. The water is a bit cloudy though. I am going to get some filter aid as a few times ive read on here its good. Not really needed it before as water has been always clear but doing this has made it cloudy.
There is hardly ever any un eaten food and when there is I remove it never had this before. I did give cucumber other day and they was eating it, I kept an eye out for any un eaten but I didnt see any. I'm wondering if some was un eaten some where and I didnt spot it?? The water should clear over night hopefully. I took took the air stone out when doing big clean out and it crumbled!! Its a fairly new aswell. Will they be ok with out it until I can get a new one?? |
