as geos they will be south american and so its probably a good guess that they will prefer a lower ph of about 6.5 but that said in my experience they are tolerant. if they are agressive you'll probably find they will only be aggressive to other geos in the tank. and they WILL kill them. a sandy substrate really is 100% needed for these guys as they love to root around in soft sand cleaning it up. gravel just inst fair on them. so basically feeding is easy as they are great scavengers. |

found a picture just so you can be sure you have the right fish.. its common for fish shops to label wrongly
and to me that looks like about 4 other types |

the fish in the photo is a geophagus surinamensis. they are not aggresive will grow to about a foot long, males are more colourful and have longer fin ray extensions. easy to keep even with small fish. i have six part grown ones living with tetra and cory catfish. they are slow growing though best kept in a group greater than four. hope you have a big tank?
there are are a couple of variants to this species, one called tapojos or red headed, and a yellow headed one, but can't remember name
hope this helps |

The geos are not posing a threat to other fish in the tank, they are currently sharing with silver sharks, clown loaches and plec, a few black neons too. Not showing ant really outwardly aggressive behaviour, I currently have small round gravel in my tank that they seem to move about with great gusto! no probs feeding, infact possitively greedy!! I have correctly identified them as I've been on loads of sights to get info. Just isn't much 0n size and sex difference. the fish i have show no difference in finnage just one is a little darker than the other. Anyway thanks guys. |
