It worked!
My Kribs in the Biube (see other thread) have just laid their first ever batch! I am no longer an Fish Breeding (EGG LAYER) Virgin!
Thanks for all your advice. Need to ask for some more pointers though....
1. How many times do they lay (How often, do they bring this set up before laying again)?
2. Whats the chances of this first session hatching (heard they can take a few times to get it right)?
3. If the eggs hatch, will the fry take powdered fry food or does it have to be baby brineshrimp?
4. (Finally for now) How many days after they hatch do I need to wait till I feed the fry (How will I know when to?)
Any pointers you can give me would be greatly received....... |

firstly , they will only lay again once the young are about 1-2cms and i was going to say away from the nest but in a biurb dont have much chance, basically one you take the young away,it takes a bit of practise sometimes for them to get it right they may not hatch the first time or they may eat them ,when they do hatch the young are self sufficent for 4-5days(food wise)then try them on liquifry no2 for egg layers, so feed on the 6th day and lastly heres a few POINTERS

Great picture Tasha!! Looking in the tank, most of the eggs have been eaten over the period of today, I know they say that this normally happens for the first few times a pair breed till they get it right, but cannot help feeling gutted. About 20% left of the batch, not sure if I should 'rescue' the remaining ones, or let them get on with 'getting it right'.

its a chance thing nick , u could leave them and chances r they will eat the rest and then try the next time and if she starts to eat them u could rescue them . the decision is urs |

ive been in the same situation nick thats why i can only tell you what i think, yes...it is gutting, as you think youve got some youngsters on the way, if you want the pair to finally get it right , then its probably best if you leave the eggs with the two of them, and give them another 3 or 4 goes before you interfere...they will get it right eventually. If conditions are kept good in the tank, they should breed again within the next few weeks(5 weeks tops) good on ya though for getting it them off the mark |
