One of my discus has hole in the head. Anyone got any ideas as to the best way to sort it out? I noticed it last night, methyle blue'd the tank last night before going out. The tank is 450l comunity tank, temp running about 29 degC, 5x discus 4x clown loach 5x plecs 6x corri's 1x Tiger Barb and a couple of odd balls and far too many mollies (anyone want some free mollies?) |

I've done a search on the tinternet. The general theory is, dirty tank (or under filtered), or a lack of vitamins/wrong diet. Treatments inculde the use of Metronidazole, and vitamins, ground up and put in the food. This could be fun! |

What size tank have you got?and filter?are you over feeding the fish?are doing regular water changers and cleaning the gravel?
Reading between the lines it sounds like the fish tank is over stocked and not enough filtration for such large fish maybe try getting an external filter. |

hole in the head is not a worm,it is a protozoan infection usually combined with bacterial infection,Flagyl will usually clear this up,but it is a prescription only drug.Poor hygene and diet are usually the cause. |

Imwith you ray its not a worm thats what iv been trying to tell them. Its usually easy to clear up it sounds like the tank is over stocked and no enough filtration cant tell without knowing the size of the tank. |

Hi ya guys and girls. Thank you for the input. The tank is 5'x2'x2.5' approx 450 litres, filter is an eheim 2080 Pro3 (should be big enough). I do the water cahnges but must admit to being lazy with the gravel hoovering. I guess once I sort this out I'll have to do more gravel cleaning. I've seen the hole in the head guard, but will this clear up the infection thats alreadt there. I've started feeding them with multi vitamins on the bllod worm. I guess I'll have to see what happens. I've ordered the salt and will dose the tank when it arrives. Thank you for all you help everyone, keep the info coming, just incase I miss something. |

I would ditch the gravel and use a thin layer of silver sand, this way the muck stays on top and is easier to remove, also with discus in mind what is the hardness of the water and the PH,as wrong levels will stress them. |

the pro3 is fine its just with you saying it was undergravel filtrated thought it was not enough for the size of the fish and the tank i would get rid of the gravel as ray said sand much safer good luck with curing it |
