have you got enough air being put into it via the venturi, if not stick a small air pump on it thats what i did, and if it looks very clear then its def running to lean , if its dark thick liquid then its working proper should take at least 5-10 days to fill the cup up |

Linda, glad you brought up this problem - as I have the same issue.
I got a new aqua medic skimmer and it just fills up the cup quickly, with most of the volume being taken up by water. I spoke with my retailer who has one himself and he said that there is a bedding in period of a few weeks for most skimmers - so I'm going to wait and see for a while. |

yanton there is a bedding in period but if you have a aquamedic 1000 there is a extension to put collection cup higher also you adjust flow via the 2 black adjusters at front |

in tank, can't switch it on it just overflows, pump is same hight as base of skimmer, but it's not the water , it's the foam is turning to liquid in the colection cup, can run it for 30 mins max |

Sounds like there is to much resistance on the out flow up the air and get the flow rate to the minimum and I would remove the bubble stop to see if the problem goes away if it does go away you have set the bubble stop up incorrectly.
Also have you made sure the skimmer is at the correct height in relation to the tanks water level, it is very important to get this right if the skimmer is to low the problem you have will remain no matter what you do. |

i'v just lowerd the pump and put a inline tap, it seemes to have helped , water in skimmer is about 3" above tank water.
we also have loads of mini bubles comeing out of the stop chamber ? why , but it is a new set up. |

I have mine sorted out now. It is in-tank. What worked for me was to reduce air flow, by simply placing a cheap variable air clamp on the air line. Now I can tinker with it so it works perfectly.
I wish there was a way though to minimize air bubbles escaping back into the aquarium and affecting my power filters. |
