ok guys, as most of you know my discus have spawned for the third time, there are loads of fertile eggs. The first time the eggs never made it to wrigglers, the second time they ate the wrigglers as they hatched. Do i (a) leave them to it and see what happens ?, or (b) if they decide to eat them as they hatch again, put a divider in the tank and try to raise them myself ? as they live on the sac at wriggler stage, will they accept liquifry as free swimmers ?

discus fry do alot better with their parents as they eat the 'milk' off their parents. id leave them to it, if its only their 3rd spawning they still need practice. theyll get there eventually lol.

cheers rob, i know all that, just wondered wether it was worth giving them a chance and maybe introduce a couple to the parents at free swimming stage ? if they accept them as there only at the other side of a partition then let them all back together ?

i think the problem was last time, the initial shock of the sac popping open made the adult instinctivly eat it.

i had read it before, but isn't it amazing how much more attention to detail you notice when you have to do it i'm reducing water levels now

It is possible to rear discus fry,but it is hard work.

lol ray, i've done nothing but sit back and watch so far. Don't believe all you read, or are you talking from experience either way, mine spawned on 4th feb and now @ 14.32 on the 8th they are just starting to free swim, amazing and sometimes funny at times. Bit like watching a child learning to walk. I'm dead mpressed and so far very pleased with my efforts but i know it isn't over yet, they still may kill the young, just keeping an eye on them, not so hard, although i must admit it was difficult getting the water perameters tip top, but once that was done the rest has taken care of itself

I have pan reared discus, but it is much better to let mam and dad do it,drop the water level down to help the fry find the parents.
Have you got brine shrimp ready to start hatching?

pan rearing would be an absolute last resort for me. Water levels are dropped and i'm getting brine shrimp eggs tomorrow, i might need a hand with that suject ray, but i'll pm you if i get stuck....thanks
