Hi. How many gallins would this tank be??
24" length
12" depth
15" height
Just wondered as to the gallons as I saw some one today with this size ank and it had 4 fish in it!! No way is it 40G but im not sure how much it would to advice her to how many she can stock in it. Her fish keep getting sick and dieing which im certain is from over stocking. Ive tried looking on the net for something to help work out the volume but cant find anything. |

Hi thanks. Wow it is over stocked lol. Im not sure how long she has had the tank, I think maybe about 8 months or something and it that time a number of fish. I did tell her maybe its best to only have 2 fish in there but With me knowing now its a 15 then just 1 fish! She has a fluval pump (internal) Looks like the smallest one you can buy, whcih again I told her she needs a better pump. Do you reckon with a better pump and better water managment she could manage 2 fish?? Ive printed off about Amonia, Nitrites and nitrates etc... to show her aswell as other info. I also tested her water for her and the amonia levels were sky high. Im surprised any fish are alive! I suggested a large water change to bring it down. |

2x1x1.25x6.25 = 15.625 imp gallons or x 4.54 = 70.93 litres. |

What fish is she keeping if goldfish the tank is too small but it would be a good size for small trops such as tetras apistos corys and ottocinclus and if microsynodontis if you can find them. Perhaps even galaxy rasbora. |

Ideal set up for trops would be plant with java fern on bogwood this stuff is indestructable and a sand substrate
Fish:
10 cherry barbs
4 Panda corys
2 ottocinclus
and a pair of apistogramma.
That will give you about 20" of fish.
With airation you could put 30" of small fish in there if goldfish I wouldn't put more than one fish in as they are big polluters and a tank this size will not cope.
Filtration a fluval 3 internal would do the job nicely and provide the airation.
Obviously a heater as well as a couple of T8 flourescents.
I have a very similar 10 gallon set up to this minus the apistos very peaceful to watch the cherry barbs darting in and out of the java fern going to add a couple of glass cats to this at some point. The java fern actually keeps the nitrates very low I just do water changes to maintain stability as the hardness of the water drops with time resulting in a ph drop. |
