09-02-2007 07:22 by netty d

Karen, if you are using water straight from the tap you are poisoning them with chlorine. You must use a de chlorinator of some kind, there are loads about, agua safe is one |
09-02-2007 08:36 by tank busters
|
welcome karen |
09-02-2007 09:08 by wayne
|
or just leave your water to stand for 24 hours before you put it in your tank and cvhlorine will evaporate |

hi karen welcome to the forum |
09-02-2007 11:40 by Jessica

Hi Karen. Welcome.
Its just the worst when some one sets up a tank with no effort at all and it all goes right isnt it!
When we were moving our house around, we had to get rid of a 4x2x2 like yours (the cabinet was too big ) and I gave it to my dad. He bought de chlorinator and a ph test kit and spent loads on it, but after the first two weeks thought everything was 'ok'
When he moved house again, they kept the tank half full and the heater broke and he kept them in cold water and all my fish still survived!
I ended up taking them all back to go in another tank I had because he obviously didnt have the time to care for them properly. But it amazes me that cichlids etc where breeding in this tank and I couldnt get them to in mine
Some people really just have it easy |
09-02-2007 11:42 by Jessica
|
( Lol my bros got them now.. I dont think theyre as 'educated' in this department as me , they should come to this forum) |

09-02-2007 13:18 by Jessica
|
well you should of |
09-02-2007 13:19 by telboy
|
why? |
09-02-2007 13:22 by Jessica
|
err do remove dangerous chemichals etc from tap water and too help with the protective coat on fish |
09-02-2007 13:30 by telboy
|
rubbish, its all a big rip off ya more than welcome to come see any of my tanks ya can do any tests ya want + i bet ya wont find anything wrong with any fish or tank water.if its "OH SO BAD" then how comes ive had no probs with any fish apart from an out break of w/spot on my clown loaches [which are well known for it]go through all the "help my fish are ill" posts on here + i bet they all use chlorinators + anti this + anti that.as long as you keep ya tanks clean + do regular water changes, + dont over stock or over feed there's no need for any of the meds/remedies that so many folk use + in my mind waste so much money on ask paul, kev, lex anyone whos seen my tanks + i bet they'll back me up? but if you wanna waste money on this stuff then its up to you!!! |
09-02-2007 13:42 by Jessica
|
waa *** calm dwn tel
those who use it, use TO BE SAFE. have you ever seen a black moore that has been through years of water changes with no de clorinator and then seen one thats been through years of water changes using de clorinator. The fact is mate these things are in the water, if theres a chemical that says then can neutralise them (btw they are NOT allowed to lie in advertising so I SEVERLY doubt its bullshit) then us fishkeepers are right to use it. As for anti this anti that the only chemical I use if possible to keep it simple is de chlorinator. Why you making a big hit at us/me? As for LETS SEE YOUR TANK, what the hell has it got too do with your tanks? just because youve been keeping fish for '20 years' so *** what mate. i think you'll find that if you do the RIGHT test for those dangerous poisonous metals after you;ve done a water change. You WILL find then.
Lex has also seen my tanks and theres nothing wrong with them.
Its on the market for a reason tel.. just because you dont use it doesnt mean its bullshit and doesnt work. Yes, you will be able to keep your fish alive without it but they'd be better off with it |
09-02-2007 13:45 by Jessica
|
as for if its 'OH SO BAD' THEN WHY HAVENT YOU HAD NO PROBS WITH YOUR TANK
chlorines etc dont effect the water muhc more they effect your fish and WILL stress them more than if you used the de chlorinator. just because you dont have 'probs' with your tank because you decide not too use it doesnt mean no one else does. We choose to use it as good fishkeepers to help our fish, so why ON A FISHKEEPING FORUM are you giving us *** for trying to do better by our fish !!!! |
09-02-2007 13:52 by telboy
|
jessica,CALM DOWN gal,no need for swearing!im not having a pop at you or anyone else, just pointing out the fact that ive never used it or any other chemicals + ive had no probs, where as those that do use chemicals seem to have nowt but probs,i know of a few folk who use dechlorinator + do tests every day, they add this + that yet theyre fish are dieing on em regularly,so unless youve become webmaster overnight, i have gotta right to put my point of view on here do i not??? |
09-02-2007 14:01 by paul stevens
|
Ill back you up on the telboy 100% what you are saying about meds and treatments waste of good money i will admit the only thing i use is tapsafe thats about it but as far as i know tel doesnt even use that and hes tanks are spot on.... |
09-02-2007 14:14 by Jessica
|
fair enough tel.. its good you have no probs
however i never said i was webbie, i never said you couldnt have an opinion niether did i? its with accepting your opinion i put mine across.. is that ok?
paul.. ive seen his tanks theyre amazing (i get jealous ) and look perfect.. and he used tapsafe as he just said. its just with what you were saying, its as if your implying those of us who use these dont have immaculate tanks.. well look at pauls for that one.
Tel you have fair points there, however i stand by what i said.. and I severly doubt that because people add de chlorinator.. it creaes problems in the tank. I think other chemichals.. yes but not this one mate. I try not to use any chemichals but aqua safe if i can and my tanks are fine.
i know from experience things that are sposed to get rid of disease in the tank etc.. arent so good. I used one for bacteria thing (way time ago now)and it just came back again and again. |

hey guys stop bickering, tel i dont use meds or treatments fr my water just buffer and my fish r always breedin so this would say its optional but not necsry, Hi karen and welcome to the forum |
09-02-2007 14:35 by Jessica
|
zzr were not bickering were putting our opinions across mate
this is what a forum is for.. advice, ideas and opinions.
Again zzr what you said is your opinion. of course its optional no one HAS to use it because some people dont. But its not to say people shouldnt use it.
Tbh I dont think we can settle this unless we get proof (i mean hard evidence- not the fact you dont use anything and your fish are breeding) that it is or is not beneficial |

09-02-2007 16:22 by keith t
|
Im with Telboy, i used to use it all the time but big waste of money, now all i do is let the water stand for 4 hours to let the chlorine evaporate and add some bicarbonate of soda if its for my malawi set up or nothing if its for my planted cardinal tank.
Ive used all sorts over the years including ro units but half the time you are just throwing aload of money down the drain |

Gotta go with telboy there ,i dont use dechlorinator or any of the chemicals your just adding a chem to a chem ,a big rip off.I keep marines no chems there and after keeping fish for over 25 years no real problems. |
10-02-2007 10:04 by wayne
|
i dont use any chemicals in my tanks , as ed says a big rip off |

10-02-2007 13:47 by Jessica

dont have the time to leave the water to stand me, getting the temp is bad enough. So I will stick with using de chlorinator |
