Kribs |

I had a pair of Kribs in a tank on their own and one pair in my main community tank (bought recently as a pair). The pair in the breeding tank did lay for the first time a while ago, but the female passed away recently.
I lost the second male in my main tank shortly after purchase and have reluctantly had to put the female back into the main community tank to see if they will pair together (did originally put the female in with the male in the breeding tank, but she kept attacking the male in there).
The female is coloured up, is plump and on occasion will show to the male, but does keep on battering the male by ramming him when ever he comes near to her (and then will show to him by shimmerin again). He does shimmer and show to him, but then gets rammed and chased away by the female.
Is this a lost cause on trying to get them to pair or should I keep on persevering with them?
Hope the above makes sense...... |

Hi Tasha
He takes it and goes back 4 more, she comes to him as well, but then will chase him off a short while later.
I have put a second male in but the original male chases him around the tank and the second one has lost his bright coloring.
Thought kribs were supposed 2 b easy |

Think I will get another pair and C how they get on. Was guted when the firt female of the pair died, they had laid for the first time and I was quietly confident that they would get it right the second time.
Whats the best thing to use for breeding caves and how many should you have in a tank for a pair?? |

I'd say as many as possible tbh, so they can be really happy where they lay etc. Tbh, large pots will do, cant think of anything else really ? |

Got a couple of pots in the tank, but am confused at the best way to do it, the books often describe it but don't show a pic. My original pair used an empty weighted vitamin tub, but I read about pots buried etc and get lost (its probably obvious, but not sure how) |

The best way to do it is to block the entrance to the pot with a stone or another item in front of it, leaving a gap that the female can get into by just squeezing in - her body needs to to touch both sides of the doorway (if you get me!). Kribs really are fussy about the breeding sites, if they don't feel 100% secure they just wont breed. I would place the pots away from the front of the tank too.
How big is your female? If she is bigger than the male then thats your problem! Try placing them in the breeding tank with a divider. |

Everytime ive bred them, they have chosen to breed in white tubes in my tank, even though there are numerous caves, like james said, try and have the gaps reasonably tight so its a squeeze for them to get in, it can be spacious inside the cave though if you want(usually best).Other than that i havent had too much trouble with them apart from failed spawnings |

Cheers for the pointers. My female is larger than the male, perhaps its this thats the issue. Looks like I'm on the look out for a big male now.... |
