just got a red crinoid to joing my marine community. Amazing and enthralling to watch. It crawls around on its tentacles like nothing I have seen before. Cost me £20. Bright red and a centre of attention. It moves around constantly. Apparently it is related to the starfish family. Pictures and vids coming up:
heres a bit of info on them :
Has a temperature range of 72 to 79°F (22 - 26°C). These are suspension feeders that uncoil or coil its arms to gather extremely fine planktonic food and/or provide locomotion to swim to other areas. Requires very specific water currents in the course of gathering food. Without specific attention to their needs, they slowly digest themselves and disintegrate. Better left in the WILD.
yanton you will now need to add red plankton and / or cyclops into the tank when feeding , if you already dont , if you ever see a flashing flame scallop dont buy on impulse as they live for about 1-2 weeks max ,
great looking creatures but in Ronald L shimek words
"Crinoids should not be kept until we make more strides in understanding how we can provide the right kind of food to these lovely, delicate creatures."
