Filter type with small tropicals |

Hi. Can any suggest what the best type of filter is for small tropicals like penguins, mollies, panda corys & a betta. At the moment im just running the internal clearsel filter but the current seems a little strong, even on lowest setting. There are attatchments that came with the filter to alter the outlet but I havent a clue what they do and how they alter it lol. One attatchment blows water out across the tank but also has a white tube that goes up and out of water level? The other attatchment just goes upwards aiming the water straight up? My concern is water agitation and by reducing the current would is lower the agitation and oxygon?? |

Can you post a picky of the filter and all the attachments it helps to know exactly what you have got. If you have a pipe with lots of holes down the length of it this is called a spray bar and should enable you to up the flow to the maximum without blasting all the fish around the tank. |

I suspect that the white tube is a venturi. This is connected to the out flow (should be a small hole) and other end comes out of the water. This will put air in the tank. |

really you should buy a filter to fit the volume of water not the fish so going and buying a "small filter" isnt very good advice |

Hi. I thought using a smaller filter would cause problems and not filter the tank enough? I have posted on here beofre a picture of the filter, will see if I can find it, should be in one of my posts lol.
Linda, you described it bang on lol. If it puts air in does it increase the power outlet and current?
Its the current im trying to reduce but maintain filter levels.
Idealy I really want to go for an external filter, I have one but ive put that to the cold water tank as they need a higher filteration.

You could try deflecting the out flow off of one side of the tank, this should cut down on some of the turbulence but still maintain the filter flow. |

Yep i could
This wouldnt reduce the airiation though would it Dont want to deprive them of oxygon either lol. Will try that. Nipping back to LFS in morning again so will also ask there advice aswell, see what they suggest.
I think I need to save pennys and get an external filter with a spray bar out let. |

Went to get more pandas today and asked about the current etc.. She suggested a spray bar internal one also but they were out of stock (typical, sure they see me coming) So on the look out for one now. I did see some on ebay last week, cant remember the name either, cant even find them again now
Thanks. |
