Hi, new to marine keeping so sorry if I am a pain and ask a few questions all help will be appreciated.
Firstly I have a juwel tank 125 ltr
So how much live rock do I need in it ie kilos, have a few bits at the moment ie around 9kg and how many fish roughly should I put in a tank that size
Secondly the tank is ready to stock and I was going to purchase a pink scooter blenny, so does anybody know much about these.
Thanks in advance for your help |

extenals can help towards nitrates mate have kept fish with externals and with sump bio balls no have tnk with live rock would never use external filter or internal on marine again will always use live rock for filtration if u r getting 27kg of rock like u say u are take media out of external and internal use them for stuff like carbon rowaphos polyfilter or floss just for polishing water but u will need some powerheads to move water around |

Craig over kill on the live rock mate only need 1 kilo live rock to 2 imp gallons of water.
As it is intended for fish and not reef I have no problems with the use of externals having said that the live rock should be able to carry out all biological filtration I'm going to give a list of what I would see the requirements being.
15 kilos of premium grade cured live rock.
Circulation pumps to circulate at least 2,500 litres per hour preferably more I note on another thread you actually say you now have 27 kilos of live rock if this is the case I would suggest at least 3,750 litres per hour.
Skimmer rated to twice the size of the tank.
With the externals get one to run through a uv sterilizer and remove the other one they are not necessary the live rock should provide all biological filtration. To this end with the filter that remains on the system remove all of the filter media and place a phosphate remover in there no other media should be necessary.
Lighting for fish only is not critical however if you wish to keep light dependent inverts anything up to metal halides should be considered depending on what you want to stock.
Hope that helps research the berlin method.
As far as the scooter blenny goes they often do not thrive in captivity due to poor choice of tank mates similar story with mandarins they are very dependent on copepod populations and will often not touch dead foods.
Hope this helps. |
