I set up my new tank 6 weeks ago it went through the cycle, last week added 4 large hermit crabs but on thursday the readings went through the roof took the crabs out, did a 25% water change but still no change,It is a 110ltr tank with a 305 fluval external and 2 fluval 4 internals, with some base rock. It is only going to have 4 large crabs and maybe some damsels to add movment, will it sort its self out or do I start again hope not crabs want there new home

Hiya LarryC,
If i were you i wouldn't worry too much about the crabs, they are as hard as nails, as for the further spike in your readings, can you ellaborate on which ones you are having problems with?

Mark.

as danny says, you need some bio load to start the cycle

I believe that Larry, is trying his best with what he has, if he didn't care he wouldn't be here asking the questions..
I reckon the tank has plenty of bio load but no/little natural bacterial biological cycling. If there were no bio load there would not be high readings in any of the three areas.. Phos/Nitrite/Nitrate...all of these come from decomposition.. unless introduced thru tap water...but i believe Larry is using RO water..

Thanks for that Mark, everybody trys there best, some might not have as much money to spend as others, some have not got as much experience as others and you can read as many books as you like but it is not the same as talking to people who have shared the same problems and know how to solve them to those who helped and will help thank you
