Upside down Oranda |

I have an oranda that has been floating upside down, on and off for the past few weeks.
I've tried a couple of different treatments and neither have worked. Yesterday, thinking it was on it's way out, I put the fish in a shallow bowl of water and since then it has righted itself.
Now I don't know what to do for the best. I don't want to put it back in the tank incase the problem starts again, but can't leave it in a bowl for the rest of it's life surely? |

Have you tested the water in the tank? Could be that's the problem?

Have had the water tested at local pet shop and it's fine. Plus, the water in the bowl is the same water as in the tank. |

Thanks Tasha. I already feed it bloodworm but will try the pea trick - I've read about that method being successful - thanks! |

Its down to genetics they have twist bowls and cramped swim bladders because of the selective breeding for deformity.
Best bet don't feed the fish for a few days and then feed some daphnia or brine shrimp feed this every other day for a week then feed some bloodworm instead.
Also don't feed dry foods as this makes the problem far worse as it clogs up their inards. |
