my finger coral was slowly dying so to try and keep it i have fraged 2 pieces of it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,is it normal for inside to be brittle?????how long does it take before you see them opening again ???????hope you can help

Hiya Craig.
If the coral body is brittle and "dusts" if you rub it in the water it is dead, if not dying. If its not too far gone you could try a coral dip in coral disinfectant, iodine dip or try a bit of both using LUGOLS solution.
Just keep an eye on em, you dont want to pollute your tank or risk what is most likely a bacterial infection sreading.
Difficult to say without seeing it but thats the best solution i have at the moment.

If it is dying in this sort of way check your calcium and alkalinity levels this is normally the cause.
