Infertile eggs go white, fertile eggs remain translucent and start gettin darker as the embryo's start to form.

Too many infertile eggs get fungus on them very quickly, especially if water conditions are not spot on, but for egg scatters this should not cause a problem to the good eggs.

However with those fish that actually place thier eggs in a cluster, too many infertile eggs can pollute the good ones if the ratio is too high. Mind you, most species that lay eggs in clusters are pretty good at picking out and eating infertile eggs for this very reason.

A lot of novices who's, fish actually breed are alarmed to see fish eating the eggs, however in a lot of cases they are just cleaning up, but of course, in others they do actually eat the whole clutch

Just as Wymcot said.

A few drops of Acriflavine or methylene blue will keep fungus at bay. Dont over do it

New carp technology hatches the eggs in a fine water mist chamber rather than submerged under water. The fine spray stops fungus from forming

Tasha, thats a good policy to adopt unless you really have the facilities to raise the eggs/fish seperately
