Posted £45,0000 Koi carp
27-03-2007
11:55 by RyanR
my brothers partner is pretty well off and I popped around his gaff late last night to drop some drawings off of a bungalow we are building at the moment, as i got there he asked me around the back where i saw his koi pond, he lifted off the ultralite perspects panels and it was packed with koi carp, his smallest being just short of 20plb, anyway he pointed out a massive ghost koi (45plb)....he's just paid 45k + 5k for shipping to have it sent from japan, you should have seen it, its like a shark with the size of it, going to get some snaps for you all the next time i'm there.....50k is excessive dont ya think, for 1 fish...would hate to tot the full value of fish he had in there.... thats half my mortgage!

So will you be going carping in his pond next Sunday

Personally I think its madness! as much as I appreciate the beauty of koi, the words 'eggs in one basket' spring to mind.

Koi dont have to be expensive to enjoy them,

There are too many risks with Koi herpes, SVC etc

God he must be mad, not as if you can take it for a walk and show it off!!

A Koi is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay, daft idiots!

Hope he's got good security!

Thats not madness, its lunacy, if indeed the story is true.

Perhaps he should consider seeking some medical advise and consider that the money would have been far better spent on a worthy cause, and on someone who actually needs it.

Self gratification with status symbols is a good example of a very selfish and self centred individual as far as I'm concerned.

The word "pratt" comes to mind

He doesnt play football by any chance does he.

Asking around, I can say HE WAS ROBBED!! No one would pay that sort of money for a ghost koi.
The ghost koi is not recognised by koi enthusiasts as a koi variety and would certainly not be found in the pond of a koi purest. After all, Ghost koi and ghost carp are the same fish and are carp hybrids, the result of a cross between a metallic koi and a COMMON (!) carp. NB This is not a hybridisation between species but between varieties of the same species producing fertile offspring. Ghost carp, being a cross breed, do not suffer as much with disease as koi do.In fact it has been argued that ghost koi are even hardier and less demanding than goldfish.
I may sound jealous, but I'm not, there is no way I would pay that money for a fish.

Money well spent i say better than spending it on her in doors....LOL

Oi you, behave. Anyway, you spend more than that a year getting your legs waxed.

27-03-2007
19:43 by Jessica
Each to their own. Its like the people spending thousands on arrowanas (whether they were hybrid or not).
27-03-2007
19:54 by Woz
each to their own as jess mensioned, if youve got the money and willing to be daft enough to spend it on 1 fish and be happy you got value for money then why not

they must have seen him coming i find that very hard to belive 45.0000 for a ghost they say there is one born everyday
27-03-2007
22:28 by wayne
a ghost koi 45,000 yeah right ya mate pulling ya leg even 45,000 guinnes you could buy 100 of these , at 45lb it must be nearing the end of its life , or its been given steriods which will shorten its life so either way , it wont last long , sounds like a load of old bull
27-03-2007
22:31 by Jim Son
it is a load of BS i thought that, someone, somewhere is telling a big fat pork-pie, it could be the man himself, maybe its someone from WAGS boutique?
27-03-2007
22:37 by Jake Casson
I could get a ghosty of near that size with all paperwork (section 30s) for a tiny % of that. Prob means a plat ogon...?

I love forums i do, firstly branded as a liar then a northern attention seeker...hahaha...forums are all about sharing stories i thought, funny how the old misrable faces pop up when a thread like this comes on (wymcot), i'm not the most educated of people when it comes to koi i'm going on what the guy says and how well i know him, considering he drives a 70k range rover sport and his house is worth over a mil i cant see why he would lie, 45k isn't his cheapest fish either....maybe some pics would convince you all...but anyway i dont have to prove myself to the minority, i was simply saying myself i thought he was nuts for paying it. A fool and his money soon parted ? yeh of course, thats why the world is flooded with millionaires you numb nut!

In reply to this wymcot, firstly no he doesn't play football he's in the elcetrical wholesale market, now as far as being selfish is concerned would you run about in a fiesta if you won the lottery and donate the money to a good cause like starving children in africa, doubt that very much, dont be so quick to judge and crawl back in that hole you keep appearing from!
28-03-2007
10:20 by wymcot
Ryan, my comments were directed at the guy, not you, so there's little need to get upset

Oh and by the way, youve never seen my face
28-03-2007
10:24 by RyanR
I aint upset its just how people judge, and specially what wound me up is being branded as a northern attention seeker, people just dont think before the write a reply and thats why the majority of the old members no longer come on this site!
28-03-2007
10:25 by RyanR
BTW Wymcot, you didn't answer my question!
28-03-2007
10:47 by wayne
anyway you have to many 00000 on the end of that if thier aint enough already , lets see some pics that would be great and how about a tag/chip number ? a fish of that value must be chipped , i know alot of people who are rich and i know 2 millionaires (only just) one is a plumber and the other is a builder , and i know they wouldnt want to pay anywhere near that and if its such a great fish why is it covered , if its because the pond where its going to live isnt ready yet then why buy it , the most expensive fish ive ever heard sell for was 21,000 and that was a 32" tancho , anyway how much money does tony blackburn have ? and he came into the shop where i worked (in his mini) and tryed batering a deal on 5 x 25.00 fish
28-03-2007
10:48 by wayne
quote "my brothers partner is pretty well off and I popped around his gaff" man love ahh
28-03-2007
10:52 by RyanR
By all means as i said i will take some pics the next time i'm there, realised i'd put 1 to many 0's on there... his pond is still covered due to weather still not changing, up here in yorkshire we're still getting the odd cold spell and lots of fog so cant really blame him for covering the pond....his pond had a steel T section running over the pond and perspect sheets butted up to cover it, it wasn't in a tub when i saw it it was in the pond....tony Blackburn? Dont get you Wayne!

23:19 by wymcot
Ryan, just picked up your post," BTW Wymcot, you didn't answer my question!"

This has obviously upset you so I will not answer other than to say I am one of the older, if not one of the originals, and I'm still here, which even suprises me at times.

As DB stays, I do speak my mind, but I am never intentionally personal unlike your comments to me.

Your comment about "crawling back into the hole" is fine by me, especially if your finding it difficult finding the right words to respond to the fact that my original comments were not directed at you.
