Just sat wondering, would sand collected from or coast line say some where like Cornwall, were it is clean be any good for the bed of a marine tank, i mean the sand after the tide has gone out, do you think that would be live sand or would it be to polluted

far too polluted same goes for water + plants,unless ya wanted to keep fish from same coast

It would be fine providing you clean it thoroughly in salt water. I say this because it will mean you are obtaining live sand for free but you do not want any organisms in there just the bacteria that will breakdown waste as only he bacteria will survive at the higher temperature.
