Would be with peaceful fish which would be bigger than the parrotfish. Any info greatly appreciated.

Love the look of the blood parrotfish though - they look different from the norm, I think that's what makes them so attractive

IMO parrots are a mix of a red devil and a gold severum so u only need to look at their genes to know if they are aggro..although u might get the odd case were u get a calm one.

IF I do decide on these fish - how many in a 190 litre tank? Are they more aggressive if there are 2 or 3 or even more - or on their own? The tank has plenty of room for 2 or 3, even with the fish I have got in it already. Plants and hiding places are plentiful, with sand on the bottom. Is this the kind of environment they would be suited to? Help greatly appreciated.

I had 10 large ones and they were not aggresive at all unless the 10" oscar started on one then they seem to gang up on it.
I had corys, blue acara, large plec, and a clarius in there and yes the corys never even got eaten by the Oscar.
Your set up seems ideal and you could add 3 they get on well in groups

To add they are territorial but this is only usually shown when theyre digging to make there spawning nests

That's great thanks very much. Now all I have to do is find a couple of nice ones - Wigan/Bolton area.

The parrots are hard to judge on temprement, i have 3 of them and allways thought of them as peacefull, i kept mine with some Tbars and other large cichlids and they where fine for a while. then i started to loose fish and never suspected them at all, slowley over time i removed fish (blaming them for the wounds and deaths) untill there was pretty much nothing but the parrots a plec a large Tbar and some clownloaches. Then i witnessed the parrots "ganging up" and harrasing the *** out of the Tbar a normally agressive fish then it dawned on me the parrots the oh so cute parrots where to blame all along.

BUT someone brought some guppys and a dalmation molly to work in a bag u have em or there going down the toilet so i threw them in the parrot tank as an emergency,

The parrots guppys clowns and plec all live happily now and have done for a few months
so at best there unpredictable but in my case i just dont think they like big fish in there tanks

interesting......seems like it's a case of try them and they might be ok - but on the other hand, they might not...! Hope I get some with a good temperament then!! Anyone know of any in Wigan / Bolton? Seen some today in Aquahome in Leyland, but they all seemed to be trying to hide behind the airtube!!! Didn't really like the look of their behaviour. Going to Pier Aquatics tomorrow on the quest, but not seen any there before. Here's hoping

Don't buy them, they're hybrids and have more than likely been dyed by injection. Do a quick google on them and you'll find some information on the cruel practices.

Parrots behaving like this in lfs tank is quite common but once they been in your tank for a week or 2 theyre totally differant.
You will get alot of people slagging them of with being hybrid but they alright.
There is alot of dyed ones about but you can usually spot these a mile off. Have a look in classified section as im sure ive seen a few come up recently for sale.
Careful what you pay for them as some shops want silly money for them.
