Is it possible to have some small rays along with Discus? Can the tank be planted? |

If the tank is big enough(about 200gallon) it is possible, any smaller it would be hard |

no point having it planted really. Rays need as much floor space as possible, plus they probably get uprooted due to the movements of the ways and burying themselves etc |

Retics and scobina would be the best choice of ray they are not as boisterous as motoro and also you will need a deep tank to pull this off.
Night can be a risk to discus with large rays so careful positioning of bogwood would be a good idea to give the Discus a safe refuge at night.
As far as plants go in the natural habitat there would be very little if any plant life and the rays will just rip it up anyway in their continual search for food. |

Where can you get Scobina these days? |

Scobina are very difficult to get hold of as they are from Brazil and they have an export ban on rays. I think Frank at www.freshwaterstingray.nl breeds them if you fancy a trip to the Netherlands. Otherwise you are looking at Retics. Planted bogwood works fine with my rays but they are only 4" disc in a 72x26x30 tank so they have loads of room. Still climb all over the bogwood but so far the plants have stayed in place. |

You'd be best with planted bogwood as there aren't many plants which can cope with the temperature required to keep discus, java fern, moss and anubias are the ones that do best. |
