I'm off to buy 3 clown loach tomorrow.
We've had a productive day today getting ready for the new arrivals!
I cleaned the tank out and added some new hiding places for them, so that they don't get disturbed anymore than necessary when we get them, cos I don't want the dreaded white spot if i can help it!
I'll let you know how they're settling in tomorrow. lol |

When they or any of your other fish get white spot then just rise temp to 85 to clear, will take about a week. |

Mollie i think you are over reacting with whitespot worry.....did the fish in the tank all show signs of white spot?

WHITE SPOT IS ALWAYS DORMANT IN AN AQUARIUM AND YOU ARE RIGHT TO WORRY COS YOU CANT TREAT CLOWN LOACHES EFFECTIVELY AND SOME TANK INHABITANTS(SOME CORYS) WILL SIMPLY DIE IF YOU RAISE TEMP TO 85, BUY AN INTERNAL FITER OR EXTERNAL FILTER WITH A UV AND BLITZ THOSE LITTLE NASTIES, NEVER PUT A NEW FISH IN WITH ITS WATER SIMPLY TAKE LONGER WITH THE SWAP OVER |

beg to differ barry use "jungle ich guard",works wonders with loaches.just remember to remove carbon filters |

I can't get hold of any jungle ich guard, but i've got some protozin at the ready!

best check to see if clowns can cope with protozin,if you are in a country where you can get ick guard dont use it to treat clown loaches (i cant get jungle products in the uk)use ick guard 2 there are huge differences in the chemical composition of the two products the same rule should be applied too any scaleless fish using a dye based treatment p.s. clown loaches sometimes get white spots that should not be confused with ich |

what you on about barry Ick is short for Ichthyophtirius which is Whitespot.
Dont know why you say not to use it on clowns. Have you had any personal experiance in using it.
I use to sell jungle products and gave telboy some ickguard to sort out his clowns as no other product was working. So we have living proof that its good stuff and worked a treat. It cleared it up within a couple of days. |

i had never heard of jungle ich guard and keeping naked catfish myself ,fish without scales are very sensitive to dye based treatment it can kill them,i was interested so looked it up jungle themselves advise if you are treating clown loaches to use ick guard II if all the fish can cope with the temperature 86deg and salt ,quinine sulphate works too but maybe best not to muck about with that |

But at the end of the day, i can't get hold of jungle ickguard, so your argument keith and barry isn't really a help to me! |

when i treat my catfish i dose at half the rate and add salt ,dont water change with cooler water and if funds allow buy a uv equipped filter(you can get cheap ones on ebay) ,the uv light kills it stone dead hey who knows maybe you wont get bother anyway??? |

Just a quick note about UVs on a tank for white spot. Make sure it is an Ultra Violet Steriliser (UVS) and not an Ultra Violet Clarifier (UVC) UVC is for use on ponds.
