What methods do people use to seed a new filter with an old filter from a mature tank, Do you cut some sponge from the mature or do you squeeze some of the filter contents into the new sponge, Mature (juwell and a ehiem) new (fluval 2 for a smaller tank)

I used to replace one sponge with a new sponge and have one new sponge and one old sponge in each filter, if only one sponge then cut it in half and the same with a new sponge.

If you have the option, you could use gravel from a mature tank as some filter media to kick start as the gravel is great for holding bacteria
