Hi. I woke this morning to find my white molly has a thick whitening colour to her tail. Wasnt there last night. It doesnt look anything like fungus. Could it be signs of an injury? I dont know what an injured fin or tail looks like. Last night she was very playful and her and the other mollies were playing like a tag game (they do every now and then) when she darted up and hit the tank top hard, could she of banged her tail? or could she of burnt it on the heater as she was hiding behind there alot? (in the tag game they hide from each other)

She is fine in herself and water paremeters are all fine. Cant get picture, Ive tried but never successful with mollies

lol fish playin tag lol i would say keep an eye on it for a day or two and if the fin seems to look shredded it could be fin rot

Could be fin rot, have you got any salt in the water, mollies are better if you add some aquarium salt

is the whitening covering th whole tail. if not and its blobs then they could be tumours. i had a comet goldfish that had some of these on its caudal fin. never did it any harm . always right as rain

Some salt may help, 1 teaspoon per gallon.

Not all mollies are grown in saline conditions. I am trying to grow a strain in soft water. Its high time our commercial breeders in UK reared theirs without salt.

Generally they should have plenty of space to avoid the pecking order of the others and extra plants give good hiding places.

there was a great article in Practical fishkeeping about mollies, think it was Feb or Mar 2007.

I would suspect that its just an abrasion due to the 'tag games'. If water temp is too low then apparently they have a weaker immune system.

If they are 'shimmying' then your nitrates are probably above 50ppm, partial water change will do the trick.

Hi. I think it was a burn or injury as the bit that went a thicker white has slowly fallen away (not shredded or anything) it was half of the top part of the tail and its now healing well.

My amonia, nitrites and nitrates are all good and nothing else wrong.

Dont anyone elses fish play tag Mine do alot. My penguin tetras do all the time between themselves lol.

My male Congo tetras are always playing tag and displaying for the affection of the females nothing to worry about providing no serious injuries are occuring.

Ok, something has gone wrong I think. i dont think now the tail was burnt Either that or coinincident (sp) that ive also lost all but 3 of my neon tetras to what i think could of been neon tetra disease? one died out the blue, so i didnt think nothing of it but next day I noticed that the blue and red on the neons in middle of body had a white/faded circle and colour gone. There wasnt no behaviour change at all though that links in with NTD, but next morning I woke and there were loads dead, leaving just 3 I bought some myxazin and started course saturday and so far no more lost and all looks ok. A few weeks ago before all this I had a penguin tetra change colour, along the black stripe area and just above it went greenish and the fish would swim and play ok one minute then go and isolate itself and twitch, i removed the fish and left it in isolation and it just seemde to recover on its own, colour went back to noraml and behaviour normal. However since this neon stuff the penguin tetra (same one as before) has gone back to isolating itself and started to go off colour again? All other fish are perfectly fine, so that makes me wonder if it actualy is NTD?? Anyway since using myxazin things seem ok.

Any clues as to whats going off? My stats are

Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 10ppm

Nothing at all new added to tank
