Right then people, im converting one of my tanks into a malawi tank, im getting rid of almost all the fish, but i still need something to keep the algae down abit in my tank, i have 5 bristlenoses already in my set up and was wondering if it would be possible for them to acclimatise from being in a mixed community tank containing mostly amazonial fish to a malawi tank with reasonably hard water and a coral sand bottom?? May i add that if it were possible i would be able to slowly change the water to suit malawis over a period of atleast one month and keep the fish in the tank whilst i was doing it so they gradually got used to it?

Yes your bristlenoses should be fine as long as you acclimatise them and dont just chuck them in to differant conditions.
I have some chinese algae eaters in my malawi set up and they can hold there own against malawis. great little work horses aswell, though few reports around about them cleaning less algae the older they get.

right cheers guys, their going in the tank, end of story they just do such a good job and mine are always active during the day, i secretly just didnt want to get rid of them, best thing is their all either fully mature now or getting that way, and my i add its taken long enough! these must be the slowest growing fish on the market in my opinion lol...anyway the males around the 7" mark now, which i believe is an achievement as i didnt think they ever grew that large,( guy in the lfs store, who really knows this stuff said hes seen them to 9inchs. anyway hate to go on so ill leave it at that
