As some of you know, i recently bought 3 clown loaches and 2 of them dont seem to get on!
It's not just when there's food about, its most of the time!
Is this normal for clown loaches? |

i wonder if you can help me with my other problem though!
Several of my fish keep flicking off things as if they're trying to have a good old scratch and they do it quite a lot.
I looked this up and came to the conclusion they might have velvet or slime, so i bought some interpet anti slime & velvet and dosed the tank.
They are still doing it though.
I've checked the water quality and everything is fine, but now i'm stumped as to what to do now!
Any ideas? |

I'm not treating for whitespot, i turned the temp up cos the clown loaches had a couple but no signs on any other fish and everything is ok with them now.
I have treated for velvet/slime though but to no effect The flicking has been going on for a few weeks now, but getting noticeably more frequent.
Maybe its me being paranoid...i dont seem to have got off to a good start and am concidering packing it in. |

all fish will flick/rub themselves, just like we do, always having a scratch! it could be 1 of many things causing it, from bad water quality to whitespot, flukes, disease etc youll just have to get a good book on diseases or trawl the various websites till ya find the right 1, a pain i know but just 1 of the things ya need to do |

I keep trawling the websites and have been for a a few days now, but i'm going to my lfs tomorrow to see if they've got any idea.
White spot is not an option as this has now gone and the water quality is spot on from the tests i've done.
I'm not going to pack it in just yet, because the kids would be devastated...they are really into it and i am too. It's grumpy hubby that reckons its more trouble than its worth!! |

Can you let us know what the tests results are: Even with good water quality it may be too alkaline/acidic/high in nitrate etc for particular fish. If you expand on the results it may help. |

OK here goes
pH 7.0, Ammonia 0 ppm, Nitrite, 0 ppm and Nitrate 5.0 ppm.
I've got neons, glowlights, mollies, guppies, gouramis and 3 clown loach.
The only thing i can think of is that mollies which are only about 3 months came out of my other smaller tank that had unfortunately got quite high in nitrate. I'm wondering if this caused them to start with the problem (whatever it is) and it's been passed onto the other fish! There is definitely no white spot in the tank, but the clown loach have now started to flick as well, although atm they aren't doing it as much as the other fish and the gouramis dont seem to be affected at all! |
