Can anybody tell me which courier they use for shipping live fish. I have everything I need to ship my bristnoses - poly boxes, heat packs, bubblewraps but I cant find anyone who permits shipping of livestock. City link, DHL, royal mail, parcelforce, ANC all say no.
Please help?!? |

I know people use royal mail to ship fish. And i know that there is a loophole in royalmail whereby you can say they are fry but I do care about the wellbeing of these fish and thats why i want a specialist courier. I dont trust royal mail with my letters let alone fish. But i really dont have a choice but to post them. They bred unintentionally and now I need to get rid of them. I have advertised them locally and had quite a few buyers but I still have lots left.
Woz can you pick them? Doncaster is that far is it? |

hi
i cant believe some people believe that it is wrong to post fish??? how the hell do you think they got here in the first place, swam?
i myself recently had a very bad experience with a large catfish he did not survive the trip!,two days later i took delivery of two perfectly healthy fish delivered overnight. pack them so they cant touch the sides of the box ,pack them with bags of water (warm if its cooler out)use oxygen tabs if you cant use gas, ALWAYS box the poly box in cardboard i believe this is very important(darkness) ask the courier to uplift late afternoon that is your best bet for success try gem worldwide, apc and tnt but you have to be prepared
success is not guarenteed and losses should be at your expense less courier fees, good luck |

ref. netty d .
did i refer to you in my reply on this thread? then perhaps YOU should re read my reply, some people do believe it is wrong to post fish. if i had something to say about your reply i would have referred to it and i would have done so without being rude,so far my reply is the only one that has actually been helpful in her quest to find a shipper. |

i mite be able to get to nottinghamshire in the next few weeks, but would be easier for me if you could post as the transports abit of a problem! bristlenoses are hardy fish and should make the journey..cheers |

danielle, you must starve fish for 24 to 48 hours before posting them, the addition of safe water or something similar to remove ammonia will help, stress coat is also helpful, some fish need to be starved for over 5 days before it is wise to ship them as part of their defense mechanism is to vomit
if this happens in a bag it will lead to death if it happens in a predators mouth ,well thats another story |

Thanks for all the advice. I read that APC specialise in transporting fish so I dropped them an email. Here's their reply:
Dear Danielle,
Your enquiry has passed to Express Logistics(Nott'm),your local APC depot.
Yes we do transport fish providing you have the neccessary licence that allows us to act on your behalf
(Transportation of live animals act 2007)
We also insist that, because of the nature of the product,i.e. live fish, all packages are delivered through our security system and are timed deliveries to reach their destination by 10.30am.
Therefore the price inclusive of all conditions would be £18.50 for first 10 kilos and 35p per kilo thereafter per consignment. Consignments over 100 kilos would have an increased kilo rate of 45p over the initial 100 kgs
So what do you think? Do i really need a licence? |

i havent heard of needing a license before just for posting fry |
