as some of you know ive gotta small nano which ED kindly gave me,anyway things have been hunky dory untill yesterday! i swopped a tank + a maroon clown for x2 perc' clowns + a very small nem'[bubble tip bout size of a penny]any way as i say all was fine till yesterday,i added the new fish + nem after acclimatising correctly for 90 mins[while fa cup was on],within 3-4 hours 1 of the clowns was dead, the other seemed ok,got up this morning now the other clown is sruggling spends most of its time on its side, water parameters yesterday were PH=7.8,AMMONIA=0ppm,NITRITE=Oppm,NITRATES=40ppm, this morning i did a water change using tap water that had been standing for over 24hrs,my readings as of 1/2 hr ago were PH=7.8,AMMONIA=0ppm,NITRITE=0ppm,NITRATE=20ppm,SALT is at 122,temp=76...the fish at friends house looked ok to me seemed to have no probs although 1 had very slight fin nips,my maroon had been in same set up for bout a month with no prob's, other tank mates inc=1 small urchin,12 small hermits,1 turbo snail, various corals,+ plenty of live rock...the tank has a 4 stage built in filter system + a small internal for water movement...please any ideas/help appreciated. ill download short vid for aiding diagnosis asap cheers terry

Terry sorry to hear about the clowns but i did say to you it is very easy to tip the bioload of a nano and if its not that you will have to go up in size of aquaria, then again i lost over 30 different clowns all in the space of a week just wasted away one after the other i hope you upgrade now you have the bug.

hi tel, what are your other readings. ph is to low, check your alkalinity first,
then your kh , and if your using tap water i bet your phosphates (po4) are throgh the roof, also low amounts of dissolved oxygen will keep your ph down. Both fisn and inverts benefit rom high levels of dissolved oxygen, good water circulation is needed, as the oxygen is drawn mainly from the interface between air and water, it looks like your clown is drowning no O2.

cheers for responces folks, right 1st the tests ive done are the the only ones in my test kit, another kit is on order for kh+gh,as for water flow its quite good considering the size of tank trik.as for acclimatising, left opened bag floating for 15-20 mins, then added a small amount of tank water to bags, left for another 15-20 mins did this 4-5 times,i know ph should be at appx 8.0-8.2 buffer is on its way,i forgot bout phosphates so ill get me self a tester for that asap, nem appears to be fine,it found a spot it likes + has settled,no sign of it dieing!,everything else is doing good all corals blooming inverts feeding, moving about ok!,the maroon i had in tank had no probs atall, but sorry to say the other clown has carked it this morning so have removed it from tank

yes trik, that little internal is quite pokey for its size,as ya know im new to marine so ill compare to trop, if it were a trop tank id say it was very adequate,at least the same if not more surface aggitation mate
