Has anyone ever had a go at building their own cabinet. Do you think that it is cost effective and fairly easy, I want a new set-up but have a problem with funds. I wana get a big tank from N & D and build the cabinet myself but I think I need to do a bit of research first.

Would be cost effective - if the tank wasn't too big - you could make a solid pine stand with no doors maybe?? I think it would be too costly to make your own cabinet, unless you have the correct tools already to hand

Very cost effective if you have the proper wood working tools and the time to complete the task.

We custom made a tank stand for our 8ftx2ftx15in tank by welding together parts of an old market stall frame a neighbour was chucking out.
After a bit of cutting, a bit of welding, a bit of paint (& some swearing) & the jobs done = seriously saving money and my 8ft is now the top tank with 2x 3ftx15x18 tanks under it rather than it being the only one on bricks.

We also had an old bought tank stand that had seen better days, on 1 occasion we built a wooden frame for it then added a couple of old but good solid oak kitchen cupboard doors and it looked quite good for a while.

if you cant get what your after on the market then custome is the only way,as most of you on here know i made my own cabinets in solid ash timber! however i think the wood cost me more than a shop made unit and then all the hours building it

In the end i have a show tank in as a one off.........well 2 off because i made a matching handed pair
