New tank & filter |

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice please.I have kept tropical fish for a number of years. the only filters I have ever used are the under gravel, Fluval internal & in my aqua one tank the carbon ones fitted in the lid of the tank. i purchased from ebay a 4` tank that comes with the pump as shown in the picture. Dare i sound silly or inexperienced but should i use it? do I need to use it or would an internal Fluval work just as well? I intend on having my fly river turtle in the tank. Many thanks. Try not to make me look too daft in your replies! |

hi tracy i would use it as i have found that internal filters are ok for small fish and there waste, but once you start with larger fish or in your case a turtle you will find the external filter in the pic much better and should keep the water clearer and cleaner. |

Thank you Alan.Next silly question, what do I do with it? Fit it will filter sponges & plug it in?What is it called? |

well tracy it should be full of media inside,as it has stood dry for a while now it might be worth giving the media a rinse with some water from another tank before you use it.then maybe the easiest way would be go onto the fluval website and print off operating instructions for an external303 or 404 filter.they will have installation diagrams will be easier than me trying to tel you |

Something to bear in mind if you are using sand as a substrate, is where to position the filter intake. Make sure that it is a couple of inches off of the sand other wise the filter will keep getting blocked. Also, if the filter has not been used for a while, check the seal on the lid and replace it if it looks worn. If it looks ok it might be a good idea to smear a little vaseline on it. Good luck, please post some pics. |

once you get used to this plastic box you will love it, my advice if you dont like it is give it to me cos i love em ,run a heavily fed baby tankbuster set up with one and it copes so well just about to add another cos the red tail is nearly 8 inches long and can she eat!!!(and of course the other function that comes with )hence good filtration is essential |

Hi big cats you are second in line for refusal after tel. We have got it up & running now so we will have to wait & see if I like it or not.
I just found my red tail an excellent home. She measured approximately 18". it was heart breaking letting her go but I know shes gone to a good home. Porton have some Red Tails in at the moment. They are approximately 5" @ £49.99. Thats where I purchased mine from measuring just 2" & my how she grew (& grew & grew & grew&...) you get the idea! |
