Make sure you have bogwood in the tank as they need some of the stuff in the bog wood to survive long term.
They will also eat bloodworm and the like as they get bigger.
My prefered food for sucker mouth cats is frozen potato.
All you do is slice up a whole potato and chuck it in the freezer and to feed the fish with it take a slice out the freezer and run it under a hot tap until it is defrosted, it will be rubbery and then just chuck it in the tank providing it has been thoroughly defrosted it will sink.
My plecs seek it out so can't be bad and it isn't as messy as cucumber.
As far as starving them goes its totally stupid and totally unnecessary! |

I hope the thing of starving them is a joke. They are not vacuum cleaners, they need food just like any other fish. I have seen too many starving plecs because they are not fed, or cannot compete with the other fish in the tank.
They will eat algae wafers, bogwood, cucumber, potato and bloodworm (not too much of the meaty foods).
If the other fish are taking its food, feed it just before turning the lights off at night - it will feed in the dark. |
