i have a fluval 304 and 404 the 304 is noisier than the 404 if you ran the filter with an air bubble the impellor could be goosed, however i have an aqua one cf 1000 and its way quieter than either of my fluvals and it needs cleaned less often parts nowadays should be easy to get, many fishkeepers will guide you to eheim because they have twenty year old eheim that still works but in my opinion they are not what they used to be

Avoid fluvals they are unreliable which you have not yet experienced (flooded lounge, nearly wiped out a marine tank) and noisy.

Eheim are better engineered I haven't tried the other canisters on the market but I would want to see them running before commiting to a purchase so have a shop around and see what display tanks in shops are running on but avoid fluvals like the plague there cr@p.
