Hi all, living at the foot of the south downs I have hard water. In the past with smaller tanks ive always used buffers. But over the last year used peat, is it really needed though?
I know rays (I have 4) dont like change so as long as my water is consistant is that ok? Tank is only a 6x2x2
I have a eheim 2260 and have a bag of peat in there as well as a breeder pack of polyfilter-Im worried the ployfilter as taking the peat straight back out before it has chance to soften water?
If I do away with the peat then I know my water will be alot chrisper/ clear. Prob be looking at a pH of 7.8 ish then?
Thoughts please |

Why not use RO water then you can buffer it to your requirements and not need to use peat
I use pure RO and never get a PH fluctuation, you are basically creating your own requirements and not relying on your water supplier to keep PH etc constant |

I was thinking of RO and did use some when setting up tank.
Thing is I live in a one bed house so therefore dont have any room for a unit.
Can get RO free from friends shop but I need 300-400 litres per week-Thats up to 16 jerry cans so just not practical.

will have to invest in a larger house then jake
they can be fitted under a kitchen sink and if u use a booster pump then you could soon make large amounts......you would just need a tank to store the water ! |

Cheers mr pope, will have to do it in my next house. When fish outgrow this 6x2x2 then I'll be looking for new house for bigger tank and an RO unit. Only 23 though and just bought this one. |
