Hi. I am going to build a new 10ft x 12ft fish room, to replace my old one. What are your thoughts reguarding polycarbonate sheets. Lighting or to much of is no prob because I breed a lot of catfish inc. Sturisomas which need lots of algy. What about heating though esp. over heating in Summer and not enough in winter. I will be space heating the fish room. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I have found a double layer of polycarbonate with a six inch gap twixt them works well. The problem seems to be sealing to stop condensation forming on the outer sheet. you can rig blinds to reduce the solar gain in strong sun

hi
have just finished building mine and a mates fish house (20x8 ft)
(i wish we had gone a couple of feet wider)
we used an old conservertory roof which was triple wall polycarb(nearly new) have found that alge was a big problem and have now covered the inside with 2mm poly sheet(its the stuff you get from b&q to go behind wallpaper about £3 for a 30 meter roll) have now found this lets enough light through it for alge to grow but not to much so it becomes a problem, also it is helping keep the shed warmer.
we were using a little 1kw fan heater, but found condensation a big problem so we managed to find an old dehumidifier(from free cycle)this has stopped the condensation problem and with it running this gives off enough heat to keep the shed at around 26/27 deg's at night(and its cheaper than the heater to run)
if you want any pics please email me and i can send you some(xwackywoox@ntlworld.com)
the walls of the shed are 4 inches thick(poly sheet)the floor is about 3 inches thick(cosy flooring) roof is triple wall poly carb. mark
