02-07-2007 19:31 by dave the wath	I am getting confused over the use of acintic lighting. Some of the sources I have read say have a seperate acintic light to come on before the main lighting and stay on after the main lighting, to replicate dawn and dusk. That I understand. I have also read that it is advisable to keep the acintic on for 24hrs..If I do this can I reduce the power of the secondary light or must it be the same power as the main lighting? This could just be a senior moment type question.

03-07-2007 12:52 by PaddyD	Lots of people use actinics to replicate dawn and dusk - It is fine to do this. I have not heard about it being left on 24 hours - it is blue light and so is visible to fish. I would say don't do it as JP says. What benefit do they claim you get by leaving it on?
03-07-2007 18:56 by dave the wath	Hi Paddy, the benefit claimed is that it aids the growth of corals, as the night,especially in the tropics is not actually completely dark. But night is night, and I cannot see any advantage except to boost power company's profits.
