I have set up a Tangynikan tanka month or so ago and used corral sand as my substrate and ocean rock for my decor.
The tank looked great at first, but all the rock has turned a brown colour and I seem to be having a prob with algae as well.
My readings are:
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
Phosphate 1
Amonia 0
PH 7.7
Can any one suggest some good plants that they use in their set ups and also a good algae eater that I can use in my tanganikan set up?? |

sounds strange the rock going a brown colour, mine just goes alittle green in my tanganyikan setups, as for your water reading im not 100% certain what they should be, i just carry out regular waterchanges and alls good (touch wood), plant wise, i go for plants with waxy leaves, they tend to do good and are abit tougher than most.....your best bet for an algae eater is a comman plec, as their cheap.....but bare in mind they arnt from hard water so take a few hours to introduce them otherwise you may have problems.... |

nitrates + phosphates will cause algae blooms, there are many additives you can use to help control these also light has an effect |

Rowa phos is the best phosphate remover - it is expensive but great - it is not an additive in that It removes the phosphate but does not introduce anything to the water. Your nitrate seems fine to me - I would try and reduce the phosephate to 0.3 or below. |

Watch your ph if using rowa phos as it can lower it and as your ph is low for a tang set up you wouldnt want it dropping any further. |
