i had 1 from an inch in with a marbled pim, 4x pictus and a male jag, pim was the size of the devil pictus was half the size and the jag was a little bigger, all was in with each other well over a year then turned on the light 1 morning (devil was about 10inches) the jag,pim and 2of the 4 pictus was chewed 2 bits !!DEAD!! it might take a while but you will be saying I was right, you'll see im the end!

mike tyson was not a killer at the age of 5!

i agree with Danny Boy that fish is NOT a red devil or midas or red devil / midas cross, Bethan whoever told you it was "malawi fry" is probably more correct than a lot of people on this thread here.

the above adds futher substance to Danny Boys post

this fish is simply NOT a red devil or Midas or a Red Devil/Midas cross

i am sorry but since when is a Red Devil that shaped and that slim, you are spending too much time looking at its eyes and mouth, what about its body? which is basically 80% of the fish. Ask this question on a specialist cichlid forum or a forum with more knowledgable members (sorry no offence but this forum is for a limited few only.......... no way thats a red devil or a midas, no way
21-07-2007
23:33 by Woz
ive gota agree with wayne, theirs just nothing malawi about it. the face has nothing malawi in it what so ever...the fins are different to anything malawi....no eggspots( even females will normally have small faint ones) and there are also very few malawi fish with orange colours like that and i cant even think of any which have as much white in it as that accept anything albino( and there not albino colours really) also most malawi fish have underlying colours...that fish also has none...im still not 100% what it is but id go for the red devil/midas above all other suggestions
21-07-2007
23:47 by sonia
true true Woz, but come one with the egg spot comments, how many malawi fish have egg spots, thats a ridculous way to assume this fish is "not malawi". In a highly stocked malawi tank you may only get 10% of them of them with egg spots, so "no egg spots" dont rule out malawi. No offence to anyone, but if Bethan really wants to ID that fish she needs to post it on a more specialised cichlid forum.

like you said earlier Woz about "elongated" come on!! this fish is WAY too elongated to be a Red Devil or Midas, and frankly i am shocked people are saying its a Red Devil or Midas.

As for "what Malawi" is it, if its malawi god only knows what it is, the malawi trade is completely flooded with hybrids that will NEVER be able to be truly identified.

I would put a months wages on it being a Citrinellum/Labiatus hybrid, they start off this shape and develop depth later on
Both sexes can aquire the nauchal hump but males usually get it when paired up with a female
I have had s""" loads of "Midas" in my time and this is defo another one

top man darren just confirming wat we already no

the point i made about eggspots was not a ment to be a fact, meaning it isnt malawi, it was just something to add to my argument, either way im still saying it isnt malawi
22-07-2007
10:53 by chris platts
It is a tank bred Labiatus Cichlid or possibly Hybridization has occurred between a Citrinellum.I am 100% positive it is not a Malawi and anybody who thinks that needs to get there eyes tested!

No problem by the way my fish are red devils. I have seen a picture of them when they were babies and adults. In an advert on this site. The small fish were what they looked like before they began to grow. So thanks a lot you were right.

Having read through this again, after reading sonias post, sorry, don't know a lot of the guys on this, but I know of Darren and Telboy, they know their cichlids. No need to go to a more specialised forum, there are plenty of guys here who can recognise an RD or RDx when they see it.
