What a crap day |

Well i woke up this morning to find my male apistogramma cacatuoides with fin rot.
So i cycled 3 miles to my LFS to get some treatment and when i got there, there was a sign saying the shop is now closed and they had took the store boards down so it looks like my LFS where i get everything has closed down.
So i didnt have the treatment so i cycled home and was going to do a 50% water change but that wasn't needed because he was already dead when i got home.
Then my dog was randomly sick.
I was like its 1.30 can this day get any better?
So now im thinking about getting an R.O unit because obviously i cant get it from the shop anymore, do you have to de-chlorinate the water before you run it through the unit?
Im mot buying today i'll probably get some guy comitting fraud with my debit card.

iv pretty much not got any hope of keeping the other two apisto's alive because the nitrate in my tap water ranges from 50-75 ppm so they'll be going to the big fish tank in the sky unless i get an R.O unit |

no need to dechlorinate, just connect to tap, thats the idea of a ro it takes out all the cr@p, but you need good water pressure for these to work well, or an add on pump which is expensive |

Ok thanks Tel |

And scott you will need to buffer the ro water either with declorinated tap water or a powder addative
if you dont add anything you run a very high risk of a ph crash !!!
im in the middle of learning all about it as i had been using ro water to reduce my nitrate and ph before getting my new discus!
however when i had the shop test my water my KH hardness was near 0
im getting there though .....more test kits bought and a few quid spent
i thought it was just as easy as 123 adding ro |

sory to hear about your loss
perhaps the shop closing was why they had the fish at a good price ? closeing down sale??
good luck with the other fish . are you sure it was fin rot? and not bullied by the other male? do the other fish show signs of rot??? |

I got my apisto's from a different shop and my LFS showed no signs of closing because the shop was full of fish and dry goods on Tuesday.
No none of the other fish show signs of disease and the male that died was the dominant male so i doubt it was bullying.
When i found him this morning he had a bit of white on the tops of his fins and he had what looked like a big hole in his head which was very red so i think it was a combination of fin rot and hole in the head disease but it came on quickly because i didnt notice it last night. |

Im going to a shop tommorow so im going to get some nitrate sponges and put 4 of them in the juwel filter along with the filter floss and carbon, which will hopefully get my nitrate down a fair amount.
Im also going to do a big water change of about 60% of water mixed with some Seachem Prime which will get rid of the nitrate a bit more, because tbh i really dont want to buy a R.O unit if i can because there expensive and there pretty wasteful when it comes to water. |

Well i just found a new shop which is about 10 minutes drive from my house and i'v just rented four R.O containers and i have just done a 90% water change with R.O and i just tested my nitrates and its at about 5ppm which im happy about so if all go's well and the fish are ok next week im going to get some more cacatuoides.
Rob how are your discus getting on? i would love some but my tanks only 90cm = 100 litres so its probably a bit small.
Im a bit happier today, yesterday was a rubbish day, but still annoyed that my ex-LFS has closed. |

Happend to me too
Was a really good shop; decent prices, quality fish that were a bit different to the usual and the guy was a nice bloke too.
Glad to here you're having a better day today. |

Thanks, yeh im gutted its closed the guys that owned it were really nice blokes which used to order me in anything i asked them to, gave me 20% discount because i used the shop since it started, used to let me in the shop on delivery day ( when it is closed to public ) to let me see the new fish and reserve them and one time he actually gave me a free fake gramma worth £12.99 because nobody wanted it. A new shop has opened but its one of those shops that looks good but has boring fish and high prices. |

But that shop is very new so hopefully they'll get better in a few months. |
