Use a sponge filter.
Its the only filter that the fry cant be sucked into but provide a place for them to feed form.

Discus people use Heuy Hung filters all the time.

I recon your tank is about 400litre.

1x HX 01 - 500 litre Heuy Hung for £12.95 would do it. Personally though i would put one at each end of the tank. I dont think you can have too much filteration.

Its also a cheap option.

Check out http://www.ta-aquaculture.co.uk/ and look under Air Filters - he is very good and cheap.

I would never use an undergravel. In a fry tank you ar best with bare bottom, that way you can keep it clean.

2 sponge filters, and a heater - nothing else.

Its so easy to keep it clean then.

I think Heuy Hung are the best becuase they are weighted at the bottom. They are easy to knock out of the way whilst you clean around them.

The ones that you stick on the side of the glass with suckers have to be 'un sucked' for you to clean around them.

remember it can take several weeks for a sponge filter to mature and always wash it in tank water!
NEVER USE TAP!

i would use the suction ones that stick to the aquarium side (3) one each end and one in the middle they dont need to be right on the bottom so no need to move them for cleaning

Which ever you choose get them now, and put them in one of your other tanks to get them started.

Dont do as i did and wait till you get your new tank and all the equipment.

Buy the sponge filter now.

good advice mwilde

i would say get some moss balls oe java fern pland the java fern in a small flowerpot with gravel and just drop the moss balls on the bottom! ( this will help keep nitrates low/stable ) it worked fantastic with our baby Oranda fry!
